The Centennial Hack
Didn’t know I’d end up spending happy years at Harvard. Might’ve chosen a different hack with which to celebrate the Centennial. But this is the one we did.

The Technique caption says “Photo courtesy of Harvard,” but that’s a joke, too. Precious little courtesy involved, here. Here, on the other hand, you’ll find our record of a later, more respectful visit.

We pulled this one on Columbus Day, 12 October 1960. The ivy was more colorful than shows here. I signalled he action from the shade of a stately elm, some ten yards away.
The next issue of VooDoo, MIT’s really sophomoric humor publication, featured a sequence of captioned photos of the Harvard Security folks trying to liberate John from his fetters. Or to get the next turn… Wish I’d kept a copy.

Our hack is also celebrated on pp. 91 and 93 of Leibowitz’ The Journal of the Institute for Hacks Tomfoolery & Pranks at MIT. My library boasts a copy.
