…and Lea Ward
N600802LeaAndy.jpg Lynda always played noticeably better than either Dave or I and was always in the first section, while we squabbled over pre-eminence among the seconds. None of us ever seemed to hold such discrepancies against the others, on a personal level.

My date (the less said about me in the picture at left, the better), was our good friend Lea Ward. I no longer recall what she played in the orchestra. Something with strings… viola, perhaps? Lea was always good company, with a puckish sense of humor and the poise to use it well. Sorry to say, I’ve lost track of her.

This was the only date Lea and I ever had. In the ninth grade (and at age 14: horror!), I was still some months away from the dawning of real interest in girls as such, and dancing was to me as alien a proposition then as now.
Dave and Lynda eventually married and moved to the Claremont area, where they had at least one child and later, alas, divorced. Last I heard, Dave was on the faculty at Claremont College. Last time I saw him (some 40 years ago), he looked very tweedy and sucked on a fragrant pipe.
