The back yard |
On the day of the big 1956 snow, here’s Pappy checking the fruit on one of the two orange trees on the west side of the house, outside the folks’ bedroom window. |
Behind him, a partial view of the shed that occupied the northwest corner of the lot. We called it the “playhouse,” although I don’t recall playing there. Kept rabbits in cages there for a while, and tried with the same cages to preserve various litters of kittens from marauding tomcats. |
Here’s a westward Brownie shot of
the playhouse, with Pinky
atop our
faithful matched pair of sawbucks in the foreground. Corrugated
metal roof, firewood and junk on the porch; more English ivy.
Through the legs of the stepladder (seemingly unmoved since a
preceding shot from another season), the passion-flower planting
that climbed the neighbor's concrete-block wall.
Not a Better Homes & Gardens scene, but home nonetheless. |
