“Sunken Heights,” 1945-6
Ruth and Jim Dunaway kindly1 identified the location for Valerie and me on October 10, 2003. In an unusual and delightful celebration of Sun Yat-Sen Day, we took them for a ride in our Eleanor, (she’s in the 2013 photo, below) so that they could see their nearby Sunset home, for what turned out to be their last time, in mortality. Jim died 15 April 2004, and Ruth 7 May 2005.
1Though, as it turns out, incorrectly; Lisa Youngdell of the Sunset City Hall helped us find the right place, ten years later.

Back in those days, the neighborhood was known (though, I suspect, only to the developers) as “Sunset Heights.” Only the Oldest Inhabitants now admit to any recollection of that name.

In keeping with his office as CFP (Chief Family Punster), Pappy called our little tenancy “Sunken Heights,” in honor of the configuration of the front yard.
