Jason Russell
Hubert Russell
Benjamin Russell’s younger brother Jason married Mary Hubbard. They gave her maiden name to their son Hubbard Russell. They seem not to have consulted him on the decision, though: it appears that he went by “Hobart,” through much of his life, and it was that version of the name that he passed along to his own son. Hubbard’s stone in the Old Cambridge Burial Ground at Harvard Square calls him “Hubert”.
It was another son of Hubbard, the senior Jason’s namesake grandson and our 2C9R Jason Russell (1716-1775), who played a prominent and terminal role in the hostilities of the Lexington-Concord Alarm on the 19th of April in 1775.
