Watertown: Elmwood |
Between the marker and this sign, you can get an idea of “Elmwood”’s history. When Derek Bok was President of Harvard, just as I was winding up my time there, he and Sissela lived here. I’m told that she had deep, white carpet installed upstairs and wouldn’t let ANYBODY walk on it. Probably apocryphal. |
We have Gerry cousins in at least two lines (Bridge of Lexington, who tie in through our Cambridge/Lexington Russells, and Munroe of Hillsborough), with eponymous Elbridges in abundance. Haven’t yet solidified the connection, but we would seem to be allied by marriage to the fascinating and cranky Mr. Gerry (inventor of “gerrymandering”). More as I unearth it. |
