Appendix: Poitiers |
Mammy probably caught this image of a pensive Pappy beholding the skyline of Poitiers. These photos date from one or more visits of theirs during their year together in 1967-68.
My recollections of coming here with Pappy in 1968-69 are rather vague, and nothing in the photo collection helps; we seem to have had a lot of Church work to do and didn’t really get around to playing tourist. Had time permitted, I’m sure I’d have insisted on poking about for souvenirs of Charles Martel’s pivotal victory anno Domini 732. I was pretty ignorant of the history of the Aquitaine, but that much I did know. Below, Pappy and Mammy visit some very old and literally dilapidated ruins, whose significance they surely knew, though I don’t. |
