Chinon
Here’s Elder Parker, my penultimate companion, reading the sign that tells visitors where Joan stayed, the night before that momentous meeting. As you can see, we made two trips to Chinon, during my brief stay in Tours.
And here are a couple of shots of the village of Chinon from the hilltop battlements; they capture the ancient flavor of the place pretty well.

We also appreciated the facilities of the nearby United States Air Force base. The good folks at the BX never hesitated to sell us the hamburgers and malts that we found we craved, after extended deprivation. It’s all well and good to be immersed in a world of fine cuisine, but we were, after all, American kids. And that side of us cried out for occasional nourishment, as well.
