This was before President Dyer became a supernumerary counselor in the First Presidency. While serving as the very energetic president of the European Mission, as I understand it, he was largely responsible for the policies underlying “baseball baptisms” and other (arguable) excesses in proselytizing (we called it proselyting) technique. While I was in Rennes, he was replaced by N Eldon Tanner. Some said, “The Dyer Fire” has been damped down by the “Tanner Manner.” In later years, each would serve in the First Presidency. |
