It isn’t as if the family’s migration from Sandisfield to Colebrook was a big deal, in a geographical sense. But when the Stillmans had had so much to do with the founding of the Massachusetts community, it’s a bit curious that they should all flock to the new one in Connecticut.

Were they maybe afflicted with familial wanderlust? Or just drawn by irresistible business opportunities? I’m given to understand that nobody today bears the Stillman name in either town.

Grandpa Appleton Stillman lies only a few feet from his parents’ grave in Colebrook.
