Once she became Mrs Inveterate Shutterbug H Duane Anderson, it was a foregone conclusion that Mammy’s adult life would be amply documented. And indeed we possess a great treasure of photos of the amazing, inimitable, irrepressible Leola Seely Anderson. Most of them picture her in the company of friends, family, students, yokefellows, and others whose lives she blessed, in her short time on earth. Even the few shots we have of Mammy by herself are too numerous for this context. I plan to pay fuller tribute to her in my personal history, if I live so long, concentrating on the 27 years of overlap between her lifespan and mine.

This shot is a favorite, partly for the sake of the many family echoes that reverberate around roses.
