We loved to gather for turkey-devouring occasions. This one could have been either Thanksgiving or Christmas of 1961, 1962, or 1963. Jim took this shot, in Sunset; Duane snapped another that included Jim but not himself. Richard was in France. The young ladies in the center were Jim’s and Ruth’s temporary foster daughters; maybe somebody remembers their names.
Another turkey, another year. This time in San Bernardino. If we recall aright, it was 1965, and we decided to have Thanksgiving early, inasmuch as Valerie and Richard would be in Boston in November. We seem to have caught Grandma off-guard: that looks like maybe a third of a smile, peeking out between the Dunaways…
