Unclear why Leola felt called upon to examine the back of Brent’s head, but these two shots would seem to establish a pattern. Both her boys had chronic cowlick issues. Brent recalls: Mom would always give my cowlick a lick and promise on my way out the door.

We think that couch belonged to Ruth and Jim Dunaway, in Sunset, Utah. Apart from that, we can’t offer any further context.
In this shot, it’s 1965, and Brent and his best friend (at left, later best man) Dave Hutchings are at the airport, on their way to their neighboring mission fields: Dave went to Paris and the French Mission; Brent, to Geneva and the French East.
