Brent, the Scout |
He’s solemn and proper, receiving at Leola’s hand a couple of advancements in rank in the Boy Scout program. He gets the first one (Tenderfoot, perhaps?) at home, in our living room. The second (we’re guessing Second Class: the Tenderfoot badge appears clearly on his bosom) came among his peers at a Court of Honor at the church building. This may have been his last Scout award: neither of us went very far in the program.
She pins his badge on, with suitable and characteristic aplomb. Between the two occasions, he doesn’t seem quite to have mastered the technical profundities of returning the favor. She’s proud and amused, both times. |
