Emergency Care in Australia
…Previous medical event: Replaced Right Shoulder (Again)
So my principal treasure and eternal companion has become a world traveler. Our time together in France and Spain and Switzerland in 1967-69 apparently just whetted her appetite, and she’s gone kiting off for the third year in a row, exchanging her Silly Ol’ Bear for the koala variety. Rebecca and Mark offer splendid hospitality, I’m sure, and she revels in the exotic diversions of the Southern Hemisphere.

This time around, however, my sweetie escaped boredom in some ways she didn’t ask for. In her words via e-mail:
Koala
Well, it’s been an interesting afternoon! Yesterday my bp was 78/47 or something like that in the a.m. but last night and this morning it was 115/70-ish.

This morning I was reading on the couch in the sunshine and when I got up my eyes were funny—like bright lights were shining into them. They cleared up and we went apple picking—so fun!

On the way home, in the car, my eyes did that thing again and then I fainted/had a seizure and when I came to, Rebecca was taking me to an ER. My bp was 71/50. So they put in an iv, 2 liters of liquid, chest X-ray, ultrasound of heart, EKG, can’t remember what else, but those were all clear. Could have told them that! But good to know. When my bp got up to 105/80 so then they said I could go home. Rebecca stayed with me, of course…

So I’m not to take any meds except the Prozac until I come home. Diagnosis was dehydration and low bp, probably caused by the dehydration. I really had been trying to drink more but guess not enough. Other than that, all is well!
