Bryan, Cadet
Bryan has given early and consistent evidence of the skyborne ambition that has guided his career to date (New Year’s, 2021). This record acknowledged his status as an already-devoted “Plane-freak” at age 14, in 2009, and then as “Bryan, the Warrior” in 2011. In ceremonies on March 14, 2015, Recognition Day, Bryan was officially recognized as a Cadet:* a member of the class of 2018 at the United States Air Force Academy. And then at Graduation on April 18, 2020, he was declared a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force: by act of Congress an officer and a gentleman! Basic

Just to achieve cadet status, Bryan had to cross some daunting hurdles:
  • 16 December 2013: Nomination (to all three service academies) by Congressman Chris Stewart
  • 20 March 2014: Acceptance into the Air Force Academy
  • 26 June 2014: Basic Training
  • 14 March 2015: Recognition Day, on which he became officially a cadet, recognized as a member of the USAFA class of 2018.

Then, of course, after two years of exacting studies and training, Bryan was called on 29 March 2016 to serve as a missionary in Taiwan. To answer this call, he had to "separate" from the Air Force and report to the Missionary Training Center on 3 August 2016. I’ll acknowledge “Bryan, Missionary” when we get to 2016. And to resume his USAFA training he had to obtain a second nomination from Congressman Stewart and re-admission from the Academy.

*Now that he’s no longer a cadet, I’ll seek an opportunity to ascertain his awareness of the etymology of that venerable Gallic title. It means, for very ancient cultural reasons, “second son”
