2009—Glorious Things! |
Kyle McKay, a fearsomely articulate lawyer by trade, had recently become the second President of the Kaysville Utah Haight Creek Stake of Zion, and the Fox Pointe Ward was scheduled for its annual Ward Conference on January 18, 2009. As Ward Music Chairman, I was tasked to provide a special musical number for the occasion.
I selected and arranged a version of the most popular hymn in Christendom: “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken,” (text by John Newton, music by Joseph Haydn), #46 in our canonical “Green Book,” but only vaguely familiar to Latter-day Saint congregations), with choir, organ, and (Sacrament-meeting-suitable) instruments. |
Inasmuch as, to my distress, our Ward Choir had been abolished the same day I was put in charge of the music, this assignment came as something of a challenge. In the event, though, it came off pretty well, if I do say so myself. |
