From the point of view of most people, Oliver III and Hannah Ashby Wheeler qualify as really obscure characters. From mine, though, and I hope from yours, once you see how they fit into our family fabric, their centrality is beyond dispute.
His mother, Granny Hepzibah Munroe Wheeler, has been my guide for more than twenty years, as I’ve sought to fit myself into that fabric. Through his parents, Oliver ties us to Lexington Green, and through his daughter, Harriet Page Wheeler Decker Young, to the whole Latter-day Saint restoration and pioneer experience. Valerie and I have followed their peregrinations and feel enormous family fellowship with them. The section which bears their names traces their story; I’ve embedded its 2007 PDF version below: |
