2000—Robertsons |
Leroy Robertson |
When it came time for Pappy to go to college, Grandpa arranged to pay for his tuition with a couple of carloads of coal. Coal, they had; money, they hadn’t. Since the railroad owned the mine, Pappy rode free, down into the valley. Pappy struck up a conversation with the fellow next to him, who inquired where he was staying. |
Pappy replied that he hoped to arrive with enough daylight remaining to find lodgings. Leroy Robertson, for it was he, said that they had an extra room at his house: would Pappy like to use it?
And that’s how our Pappy, an impoverished language student, became for that school term a member of the Robertson household. |
H Duane Anderson |
Our Arlington Robertsons went home for Christmas and returned with greetings from a couple of Matt’s elderly aunts, who remembered young Duane and were pleased to learn that he had turned out well. |
