2000—Robertsons
Leroy
Leroy Robertson
When it came time for Pappy to go to college, Grandpa arranged to pay for his tuition with a couple of carloads of coal. Coal, they had; money, they hadn’t. Since the railroad owned the mine, Pappy rode free, down into the valley. Pappy struck up a conversation with the fellow next to him, who inquired where he was staying.
Pappy replied that he hoped to arrive with enough daylight remaining to find lodgings. Leroy Robertson, for it was he, said that they had an extra room at his house: would Pappy like to use it?

And that’s how our Pappy, an impoverished language student, became for that school term a member of the Robertson household.

Our Arlington Robertsons went home for Christmas and returned with greetings from a couple of Matt’s elderly aunts, who remembered young Duane and were pleased to learn that he had turned out well.
