1987—Phase V Technologies
Norm.jpgDr Norman K Hollenberg My first task was to assemble and format the QOL questionnaires that would become a big piece of our stock in trade. We rented a ground-floor apartment in Waltham, from which we shipped the questionnaires out to a bunch of doctors’ offices, which had already been recruited as study sites by Squibb Pharmaceuticals, the sponsor of our first multi-year, million-dollar-plus project. Meanwhile, Marcia obtained more permanent office space in Wellesley Hills, near the Charles River.

I stayed with Phase V for eight years, took part in several research projects and in the writing of several variably-prestigious publications5, was promoted to Vice President (the company’s first), and eventually (in 1995) spun off CoMMensa, Inc., to pursue some of my own (Forresterian) software ideas and to collaborate again with Gordon and Norm, who had had a parting of the ways with Marcia.
