In 1979, Pappy and Norma had responded to a call to serve an eighteen-month mission in Sri Lanka. Not for overt proselytism (the authorities there would not permit any such), but ostensibly to run a translation and microfilming operation in Colombo. And unofficially to make friends for the Church among the influential people there. If I live long enough, I’ll assemble the story of their mission: it now resides in letters and photos which accuse me daily.
