Pappy’s steady hand and the
assurance of his continuing love comforted the small, struggling congregation in Pau, in particular. He returned explicitly for their sake, and so they were one of our earliest destinations.
Pau represented my deepest penetration into the Aquitaine, domain of our Grandma Eleanor in the 12th Century, although I was still ignorant of all that. My visit here with Pappy stimulated an intensive anticipatory investigation of the wisdom of Waverley Root, and we arrived with a determination to find the oldest possible version of garlic soup. |
