Appendix-Appendix: Paris |
L’Opéra |
They cleaned l’Opéra from the bottom up. Talk about monstrous projects! |
I went to performances here several times. In 1963, while the folks were in town, I got the three of us (and maybe a companion—can’t remember) tickets to a ballet performance of Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps. Mammy in particular found it a bit graphic for her taste.
Also that year, when the mission presidents were in town, Lynn Bennion and I took the Hinckleys and the Haights to a performance of Carmen. I’d wangled superb seats: a first balcony box, right in the center. My journal mentions that another mission president and his wife had cancelled out, and so Lynn and I got to sit with the big shots, rather than in the cheaper seats I’d purchased for ourselves. |
