Ward farewell

As we said goodbye to the Cambridge Ward—forever, as we supposed—our friends there gave us, “the Dick1 Anderson family,” this certificate to remember them by. Also a brick which, they assured us, person or persons unknown had pried surreptitiously (and probably nocturnally) from the Brattle Street sidewalk. The brick still functions as a doorstop at Chankly.

None of us expected then that we’d be back to stay, after only a year in the fleshpots of California
1As a footnote, let me remark that I’ve suffered only three men to address me as “Dick” without protest: Kenneth P Bailey, Bert van Uitert, and Gus Manderino. Never felt much like going up against those three. I’m “Andy” by preference, largely as a prophylactic against that alternative.
