March 31— We’ve been enjoying the hospitality of the Mormons of Cleunay. Thursday evening,
Sister Dumont invited us to dinner, and last evening, it was the Leroys.
Sister ”Spice-Bread” Dumont is a superb cook, and she made us an omelet with salt pork, followed by a pork roast and braised endives. But we were even happier to come to the Leroy home the next evening. The whole family was there: Sister Leroy, Annick, Hubert, Josette, Jean-Pierre, Nelly, Elder Robins, and me, all around the big table. And what a dinner: soup, salad, roast beef with garlic, with a formidable mushroom gravy, dandelion greens, cheese, a rice cake with custard-cream, and finally a cup of chicory. Best of all was the family spirit, which they shared with us. That spirit is just as strong with them as among us at home, and that does my heart good. |
