Mais j’ai parlé plus longtemps que d’habitude, la rassurant concernant notre but, et alors elle nous a invités de repasser le soir. Et puis j’ai bousillé la première discussion tout affreusement, mais la mère et la fille ont reconnu la vérité malgré ma présentation, à cause du témoignage de l’Esprit. Cette fois-ci, c’est [40] un peu différent qu’autrefois, avec soeurs Trumier et Menais. Alors, c’était mon compagnon qui a enseigné ces premiers converties, donc il y avait toujours la possibilité qu’il les ait converties, et non l’Esprit. Mais cette fois-ci, c’est sans aucun doute l’Esprit qui a accompli ce travail.
Un témoignage de la nature de ce travail, selon la vérité, vient par degrès, et non tout à la même temps, Chaque jour je comprends quelque chose à ce sujet qui doit avoir été tout à fait évident et nette avant, mais que je n’avais jamais compris jusqu’à cette heure.

It was my door, and Mme Leroy opened it. At first, she didn’t want to let us in; maybe she took me for a beggar. But I talked longer than usual, reassuring her about our purpose, and then she invited us to come back that evening. And then I bungled the first discussion awfully, but the mother and the daughter recognized the truth in spite of my section, because of the testimony of the Spirit. This time, it’s a bit different from the previous situation, with sisters Trumier and Menais. Then, it was my companion who taught these first converts; so, there was always the possibility that it was he who converted them, and not the Spirit. This time, though, there’s no doubt that the Spirit did the work.
A testimony of the nature of this work, according to the truth, comes by degrees, and not all at once. Each day, I understand something about it that should have been clear and evident before, but which I had never grasped until this hour.
