Student Government
Not to complain—doubtless reflects professionalism and good judgment on their part—but I’m not a major presence in the Centennial issue (1961) of MIT’s yearbook, Technique.
As a junior that year, I didn’t rate a senior portrait. In one shot they did use (this one), I look like an adolescent drunk (with a bullet-hole in my throat?) In the other, I’m a bland, conventional kid in a jacket and tie. Neither, meseems, caught my essence. Whatever that was.
Yes, I was elected Dormitory Council Representative for East Campus, for 1960-61, but you’d never know it from this item. On page 131, the yearbook folks explained the Dormitory Council competently enough, but the accompanying photos were both from East Campus and had nothing specific to do with DormCon. My three associates in the left pic were all mighty Fifth East underclassmen, my constituents, not DormCon people. I’m just guessing, but I think the three in the right-hand shot are sitting on the ivied ledge of our friendly rivals, the fifth floor of the West Parallel. The chap on the left may in fact be Ken Gentle, distinguished 1959-60 Hall Chairman of that same unit. Or maybe not.
