Westward
Westward from the Kresge terrace, here are the tennis courts where I took (and mirabile dictu, passed) a quarter of instruction in that gentle sport.

The inflatable building houses other athletic facilities, and playing fields stretch from there back to the Westgate married-student towers, visible in the background at right.
That’s Baker House, across the lawn and south of the tennis courts. It was ten years old when I came. Hardly ever set foot there, except as a Home Teacher: it was one of the sociable dorms. They’re still writing articles in Technology Review about what a cool place it is to live. It’s the only MIT dorm with a space (the dining hall) that can accommodate all the inhabitants at one time. Very different from the configuration and spirit of East Campus
