Rita Miller’s class
Somebody will correct my leaky memory (please!), but I believe that Rita Skousen Miller pioneered Seminary in Colton, just south of Rialto and west of San Bernardino. These kids are my approximate contemporaries: isn’t that Wayne Tolman, the tall chap just behind Rita at left? Wayne married old friend (of Valerie’s and mine) Earlene Fogg; we last heard from them via e-mail from Alaska.
Rita grew up on Waterman Avenue, just a couple of blocks south of our homestead, in the lovely home of her parents, Royal P and Rita Skousen, with brothers Cleon, Ervin, Leroy, Max, Keith, and Kenny, and sister Mildred. As a small child, I thought their place downright palatial: see the family photo and anecdote on the Skousen page in Chapter Six. Keith and Kenny were both my Ward Teaching (as we called it then) companions, in my teenage years. These days, Keith and his wife Joan, now living in Utah, seem to be the only survivors of their generation.

In the summer of 1958, I worked for Rita’s husband Woodrow at their Miller Honey Company, in Colton.
