After the long, bumpy drive up Beech Plain Road on 25 May 2007, my gracious and delightful guides Willard Platt and Norton Fletcher consented to pose by the stones of Grandpa and Grandma Hurd.

Then they insisted that I should really be the one in the picture.

Willard Norton
Willard’s a former Selectman of the Town of Sandisfield. Norton is President Emeritus of the Sandisfield Historical Society. Each time I have come to visit (2005, 2007, and 2009), they have been most generous with their time and knowledge.

By their indispensable assistance, I’ve been able to piece together a tolerable amount of biographical detail on the rather elusive Hurd household; you’ll find the current version in the “Mayflower” section.
