During the year they served together in Paris, the folks had a couple of opportunities to hobnob and compare notes with other Church people in Europe and to receive instructions from the leaders who directed them.

This gathering at Hitler’s Berchtesgaden (an annual retreat for leaders in the Church’s organization for United States military service personnel in Europe) would have been better served by getting Duane (at right) to focus the camera. But you can pick them out Leola (in Creamsicle, near the middle) right in front of (we think) Howard W Hunter, a particular
friend. Third from the left is Leola’s third cousin, Gordon B* Hinckley, then one of the younger members (with Howard Hunter) of the Church’s governing Quorum of Twelve Apostles. Later each would serve with distinction as president of the whole Church. Our folks were invited because of Duane’s responsibility for servicemen’s units in Spain, North Africa, and the Azores. Brent’s great friend (and later best man) David Hutchings, is here with Leola because he drove them to Berchtesgaden from Paris, where he was serving as one of their missionaries.
