Two panels to the far right and left of the monument name the heads of
115 founding households. Not all, apparently, came with Saltonstall.
Advocates for others not listed have made a case that they should have
been.
Be that as it may, this somewhat official list (engraved in stone) includes at least seven of our direct ancestors, three uncles, and a whole lot of cousins. If we counted all relatives by marriage, everybody might qualify in several ways. But that’s true in 17th-century New England pretty generally. Here are the 115 names, somewhat more readably: |
