Mitt Romney: the Ravitz Article
My path has crossed those of a number of prominent people, Mitt Romney’s probably the most notable. But I’ve never coveted their distinctions. One of these days I’ll get around to writing up the incident in 1989 when I resisted my first (and only) position as president of a congregation. Mitt, my stake president and long-time friend and neighbor, issued me a calling to serve as the second president of the Boston Stake’s Asian branch, and I protested that I was really a very good clerk, counselor, and executive secretary but, pax Prufrock, I was not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be.
Unto Us
When Mitt decided to run for President of the United States, as soon as the press found out about The Accident, I came in for interviews with a number of journalists, some of whom hoped I could feed them some dirt with which they could damage his candidacy. Others were more professional and less contentious, among them Jessica Ravitz of CNN, who spoke with me several times as she prepared an article which she entitled, “The shaping of a candidate: A look at Mitt Romney’s faith journey.” It appeared on October 30, 2011; I’ve preserved a text copy at
