Lan and Elaine are schoolteachers in Denver, except in the summer, when they are much appreciated at Martin’s Cove in Wyoming as impersonators of
Uncle Charlie and his wife, our Aunt Vilate Young Decker, second daughter of
Uncle Brigham Young, as they spin yarns and sing period songs around the campfire while reenacting the rescue of Martin’s handcart Company. Charlie and our
Uncle Ephraim Hanks were leading heroes in that episode.
The abode in which we enjoyed the Shepards’ hospitality was their trailer at the Cove; we stopped on our way back from one of our cross-country hegiras. |
