A Digression

How the LDS Church Came to Spain (concluded)

Concurrent Miracle #3:

Well, Eastman Kodak, back in Rochester, New York, just happened to choose this moment to send Billy Joe Fotheringham to Madrid, to head up Kodak in Spain. Maybe all you need to know about Billy Joe is that his previous assignment had been in Peru, where he’d been instrumental in founding the Andes Mission. The Fotheringhams moved in next door to the Pretender to the Throne.

Concurrent Miracle #4:

By this point, will it surprise you that the Chrysler Corporation7 also decided, just at this juncture, to send Brother Dean8 to direct their Spanish operations?9 The Deans moved in on the other side of the Pretender.

Obvious Consequence:

On the appointed day, when the List of Forty came out, we were Number Four. Doctrine and Covenants 133:3.

7You might like to know that the local Cadillac-equivalent, in those days, was a Dodge Dart, manufactured in Spain.
8Hope somebody can supply Brother Dean’s given name. We met, and he was a very charming gentleman. But my memory’s leaky.
9When I get there in the chronology, maybe I’ll ask Valerie to write up the visit in which the Fotheringhams were our kindly hosts. ’Twas the first time either of us had spent the night in the home of anybody with, to our perceptions at least, a whole lot of money.
