The Littlest Missionaries
If you stick with me, you’re going to see a passel of cute pictures of Rick. This is one of the best we have, and we owe it to Elder Burton Brasher, the Mission Printer, custodian of many shiny, spinning wheels and, partly therefore, Rick’s best friend in the Mission Home. Wish I had a photo of him that I can identify for sure.

Snow adorned the Seizième infrequently, but it snowed this day. Rick donned his litle red coat and mittens and encountered Elder Brasher on the sidewalk outside 3, rue de Lota. Elder Brasher did more good with the Mission’s Rolleiflex than I’d ever done.

To be Rick’s best friend on the Staff could be a mixed blessing. We still chuckle over a few occasions when Elder Brasher may have wished that Elder Ricky might evince less acute awareness of him. Hope the memories still amuse him, too. I’ll sidebar a couple of them. To be Rick’s best friend on the Staff could be a mixed blessing. OK, here’s one. At the Mission Home table, we observed certain points of etiquette. In particular, we made it a point to wait to dig into Pardo’s delicious desserts until the President did.

One evening, Rick was enjoying his pudding when his mother remarked reproachfully that President Grandpappy hadn’t started his, yet. To which Elder Ricky replied brightly, “But Elder Brasher has!” All eyes traveled to the far end of the table, where our worthy Printer’s spoon was indeed half-way to his blushing lips.
