Family Christmas
Rick showed interest in the ten-foot Christmas tree, in the Mission Secretary’s office, just outside that of President Grandpappy. We tried to dissuade him from dismantling it.

…Monday morning we shall exchange our own gifts. Speaking of which, we have an original tree. Having failed to get a little tree because when we decided we wanted one they were not available, we used Sam You’s shell ornament from Tahiti. It is about eighteen inches high and looks a bit like a pagoda—in beige, gold, & brown shells. Topping it is a round gold paper ball, and glass ornaments, a string of lights, and the icicles Sister Nelson sent over from Geneva make up the decorations. Placed on an eighteen inch carton covered with cotton it gives the appearence of a Christmas tree ?? Anyway, we put it on our table surrounded with gifts and it is formidable!
