The Sieve And Crockery Jar
You’ve heard of the Flower-within-the-Flower and other such ineffabilities? Well, we had the kitchen-within-the-kitchen.

I’ve been heard to opine, pontifically, that you haven’t kitchened until you’ve done your daily dishes in a Victorian soapstone sink. Valerie, who knows better, doesn’t quite agree.

Looking west, you’ll catch a glimpse at right of the indispensable red-white-&-blue Betty Crocker cookbook. And even with our giant Butler’s Pantry, some comestible supplies found space on the slate flooring under the sink.

At left, next to the medicine cabinet (yes, this was also our bathroom sink), you’ll note one of the lovely dishtowels whose embroidery helped Valerie manage the lonely months of my missionary absence.
