March 3, 1964 (continued)…. Needless to say, if Azay-le-Rideau is the jewel of the Renaissance, Chambord is its whole crown. Such grandeur, for a simple hunting lodge! and such extensive lands and apartments! And then at Blois, what riches of history in this ancient home of the kings of France! The curators who showed us through these marvels were well prepared and very pleasant, and we went away feeling we had a better understanding of this nation’s past and therefore, perhaps, of its people today. |
