Elder Ronald Anstead, Antoinette Panazol, happy self
October 6 (concluded)—believe at first that she could pray from her heart, so accustomed was she [254] to the memorized repetitions of the Catholics. But at the third discussion she offered the loveliest prayer I’ve ever heard, thanking her Heavenly Father for making everything “so clear” and promising him that she’ll do her best never to disappoint Him. Such faith and such humility can’t fail to be rewarded with gifts of the Spirit, and we’ve watched her grow spiritually and to come quickly to look like a real Latter-day Saint.

When we presented her the Word of Wisdom, she began to cry, saying that she was the widow of a drunkard, and that she wished that her late husband had lived long enough to hear and to accept this commandment. And she wished the same for all the French people.
Learning of tithing, she immediately [255] started planning to pay it completely, along with a generous fast offering, each month, despite the slender state of her finances and her work as a cleaning woman.

Finally, we baptized and confirmed her this morning. We spent the day with her in Church meetings, and we noticed several times over the course of the day that she was close to weeping with joy. Not to mention our own feelings, which you won’t find it hard to guess.
