Journal January 25-28, 1962

January 25— We’re currently teaching the Gospel to these people:
  1. Two sons in the Nosland family, one aged twenty and the other fifteen. These may be the most intelligent and sincere investigators we’ve yet met. They’ve accepted a copy of the Book of Mormon.
  2. Madame Piquet, Mme Nosland’s sister. We met her while hunting for a referral that Sister Charmel gave us. She’s rather timid, like her sister, and her spiritual inertia gets in her way.
  3. Mme Ruault, whom we met tracting. Very bashful and slow to learn, but, I believe, fundamentally sincere. She’s accepted, very tentatively, a baptism date.
  4. We’re spending much of our time trying to get Josette Leroy baptized. Her mother doesn’t believe that Josette, at age 11, is old enough to make her own decisions.

January 26— A funny story from our tracting: Wednesday morning, we met M. Berthelot of the rue des Trente. Returned in the afternoon to teach him, but he made it clear that he and his wife are the neighborhood agnostics. Very kind and amiable, though, and before we left, M. Berthelot gave us a copy of the Histoire Sainte that kids use in their catechism. “Not to convert you, of course; you’re a lot better than the Catholics. But maybe you’ll find it interesting” The next day, we were tracting in the rue Besnard and ran into M. Berthelot walking his dog. We chatted a bit, and he said, “Are you going to knock on the door at Number 6? Yes? Well, she’s a very narrow Catholic. Please tell her that I sent you to convert her!’ So we did.

January 27— Barring catastrophes, we’ll baptize Josette Leroy this evening at 6 p.m. Sisters Renaud and Perrot explained to Sister Leroy, the night before last, how come Elisabeth Renaud and Dominique Perrot were baptized when their parents were, despite their youth. She’s come around, and we’re getting ready.

January 28 Josette Yvonne Léone Leroy, born 5 July 1951, was baptized 27 January 1962 by Elder William Higley and confirmed the same day by Elder Richard B. Anderson.
