Journal November 8 - 12, 1961
Murphy’s Law demonstrated again! We had a beautiful call-back. The chap we talked to was working hard, but he let us in willingly and gave us a return appointment. We knocked at the door tonight and the guy that answered was very friendly but black as coal. The other chap was just a workman, though he didn’t let on.

Learned a French adage tonight. Visited the Perrots, who have a perfectly stunning eight-week-old kitten. Naturally, I cuddled the little critter, and the oldest of the young sisters said, “Qui aime les bêtes, aime les gens.” Should be introduced into English.

More referrals coming through. It seems that Mme. Aubin – she of the ungodly address – is sorry now that she didn’t let us in and is interested in seeing us again. Also, our newly baptized sisters have friends we’re going to see. [28] Don’t know how much longer the Lord is going to keep this up, but I’m not complaining: tonight we set baptismal date (next Tuesday) for a family of three that we tracted out yesterday. The woman talked to us and was very sweet, giving us an appointment for 8:30 tonight. We were a little apprehensive, because she mentioned that her husband is a railroad worker, and they don’t average too receptive. But we found him a great deal finer than her, and their son – just out of the Army, having been wounded in Algeria – almost as splendid as his father. They are European Algerians and very pratiquants. The Spirit has done quite a work here; if they can give up their Word of Wisdom problems, I’m sure they’ll be baptized.
Soeur Louis

11-9 Held a fast today, but didn’t hear about it in time to ask those at home to participate, too. Fairly uneventful day otherwise.

Saw Mme Aubin and got a rendezvous for Saturday afternoon. Soeur Louis is sure we can baptize Mme. A. if we’ll just be as persistent as Elders Higley and Palmer were with her.

11-10 D-day today, and this time things to do piled up to the point where we just about had [29] to take advantage of it. Accordingly, nothing too spiritual happened. Went to “One-eyed Jacks” in the evening. In French it’s called “Vengeance à Deux Visages.” Pretty good.

11-8 Zone supervisors, Elders Breillatt and Allen, held a conference with the six missionaries of Rennes here this morning. We got the word on group teaching, the survey method of contacting, and exactly what we’re working for a propos of building the kingdom. Quite inspiring.
