Patriarchal Blessing |

Ashley lived nearly to his hundredth birthday and was already a beloved senior presence on the Latter-day Saint scene in the San Bernardino area, back in the mid-Fifties. I may get around to recording here a couple of cherished anecdotes about him, but I regret that I learned only many years later that my own Valerie (then already) remembered sitting on his knee as a little girl in Sacrament meeting in the Fontana Branch of the Church. He gave her her blessing, too, around the same time.
And to this day, I’m intensely sorry, yea, even unto tears, that Ashley would pass from this mortal scene before I would become aware of his rôle in the marvelous episode of the burial of my amazing Uncle Charlie Decker. |
