Since we neglected to document the interior while we were there, Wade and Kristie Holmes (above) kindly sent along this detail of an exposed beam in the living room. The hand-work of an early “housewright” is clearly visible.
We fancy, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, that a wonderful interview may have taken place in this very living room in 1835, between empty-nesters Oliver and Hannah and a neighbor who was functioning as a census-taker. More on that later…

The next house to the north also seems to harbor ghosts and memories for our family.
