back Lexington: “Scotland” next
Near this spot at 510 Woburn Street, William “The Immigrant” Munroe built his farmhouse, adding to it each time one of his sons grew up and married. His great-granddaughter, our 2C7R Mary Munroe Sanderson,1 who survived to the age of 104, remembered that the house came to resemble a rope-walk.

The Brown family lives here now. Their home is attractive, but hardly as picturesque as its predecessor. When I asked, they were unaware that anybody had ever called their neighborhood “Scotland”.
Behind this house and others in the neighborhood…

1…a sister of 2C7R William Munroe the tavern-keeper, who shushed Paul Revere.
