Prologue: How Did They Meet? |
You had to live nearby to know or care, but the
ancient1 towns of
Acton and Billerica (their original village centers, at least) lie twelve miles apart in the hills and forests of Middlesex County. Their citizens, before the Revolution and now, live largely town-centered lives. Back then, they would have worshipped in separate congregations of the same (legally-established) faith. It’s hard to imagine how young folks from Billerica and Acton would have become acquainted.
