Young people in all ages and places look forward, sometimes too eagerly, to the day when they become full members of society. Thanks to William and Martha Munroe, it appears that Mary Ball enjoyed a particularly joyous transition to adulthood in 1672, after a notably rocky start in life. Not that her troubles were over, but she surely understood that her prospects and surroundings were now incomparably better than she had ever known.
