…and, we believe, continued with the faithful when they migrated from this vicinity to Kirtland, O. His brother, Gregory Metcalf, settled on the northwest part of Lot 3, in the southeast part of the town, about 1813 [that’s just a bit north of halfway between Elton (aka Cole’s Settlement, Range 4, Lot 18), where the Wheelers and the Deckers lived, and Fish Lake, about 5 miles to the east].” … “Nathan and Daniel Cole, brothers, who were active and prominent citizens during the early settlement, were at Cole’s Settlement in the southwest in 1817…” “…Nehemiah Sparks on lot 4, third range [just north of Metcalf]. He was a zealous Mormon, and called ’the Prophet.’ “…Dr Warren Cowdery, an early physician, in the Fish Lake settlement. He built the first brick house in 1828, and was the first postmaster in town..."

We know (from other stuff I already sent you) that Joseph Smith and Parley P Pratt were Warren Cowdery’s guests, presumably at the Fish Lake settlement, in 1834, likely preaching in his barn and, I’d guess, baptizing Heman Hyde in nearby Fish Lake.

Hannah Ashby Wheeler,
Barney extended our tour to the Siloam Cemetery, where we’d fondly hoped to find Grandma Hannah Ashby Wheeler’s grave. She wasn’t there, alas.

It wasn’t until 2020 that we finally located her, in Akron, Ohio. Turns out that she sold out in Cattaraugus County and went to live with her son, Benjamin Franklin Wheeler, and his family, where in due course, in 1868, at the age of 85 years, 8 months, she was honored with a much more impressive gravestone than Grandpa Oliver’s.
