Our home in Price—2004

When we returned in June of 2004 to scout out the scenes of my origins, we hadn’t yet seen Mammy’s photos and had only the birth-certificate address by which to identify the house. The authorities had adjusted the house-numbering system, and none was now designated as “24 East Sixth North.” So, relying on Uncle Brigham’s Cartesian system, we snapped a few random houses that seemed to be occupying the general location that the former address would indicate. Among those shots, this one clearly depicts the same house. Subsequent occupants have remodeled it substantially over the intervening sixty-plus years (moving the front door and replacing the windows), but it’s still recognizable, and still occupied.
